Project Description:
In a joint venture with the City of Covington, the City of Covington Housing Authority pursued CDBG funding for storm drainage improvements within their low income housing facility. The East Dried Indian Creek tributary is conveyed through the Housing Authority’s property via twin 54-inch corrugated metal pipes. The drainage system was experiencing degradation and sink holes caused by disbanded pipe joints and corrosion along its 1,700 linear foot alignment between multi-family housing units. GWES was contracted to perform a feasibility and conceptual analysis study of potential improvements including pipe replacement and stream bank restoration. The conclusion of analysis resulted in the Housing Authority approving twin 54-inch pipe replacement with a single 5’-11” by 7’-0” arch steel plated aluminum conveyance system. The aluminum pipe provides a 50-year life expectancy and meets stormwater standards of the City of Covington. GWES’s services include development of preliminary and final design drawings and technical specifications, associated environmental permits, bidding, and construction administration.
