PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The Macon and Talmadge Drainage Improvement Project represents one of the City of Brunswick’s highest-priority stormwater upgrades, stemming from the City’s 2020 Stormwater Master Plan prepared by GWES. That plan identified critical deficiencies within the existing drainage network, including undersized infrastructure, inadequate tide control, and recurring maintenance challenges that contributed to frequent flooding along Macon Avenue and the Talmadge Avenue corridor. In response, the city selected these areas – designated as CIP E and CIP F – as early implementation projects and engaged GWES to lead conceptual development, detailed design, and construction services.

GWES’s improvements included replacing and upsizing stormwater pipes and structures, adding curb and gutter along Macon Avenue, incorporating effective tide-control measures, and constructing a new ditch and pipe system along both sides of Talmadge Avenue to better convey runoff. These enhancements now provide significantly improved drainage capacity and flood resilience for surrounding neighborhoods. With construction complete, the upgraded system is functioning as intended, strengthening Brunswick’s overall stormwater infrastructure and reducing flood risk for residents and businesses in one of the City’s most vulnerable areas.
