GEORGIA AUDUBON HABITAT RESTORATION
JEKYLL ISLAND, GA
EVENT: Habitat Restoration with Birds Georgia and the Georgia Audubon
LOCATION: Jekyll Island, GA
DATE: January 2026
PARTICPANTS: Roswell and Brunswick Offices
GWES team members volunteered on Jekyll Island to support a collaborative habitat restoration effort focused on strengthening Georgia’s coastal ecosystems. Partnering with Birds Georgia and the Coastal Georgia Audubon Society, the project transformed a former golf course into a thriving wildlife corridor – restoring native habitat and reconnecting ecosystems critical to long-term environmental health.
Our volunteers spent the morning planting wiregrass alongside fellow conservation partners from the Georgia Sea Turtle Center and the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens. This hands-on work directly supports biodiversity by improving habitat for native plant and animal species while reinforcing the importance of stewardship beyond traditional engineering roles.
At GWES, engineering strong communities means caring for the natural environments that sustain them. Projects like this reflect our commitment to environmental responsibility, teamwork, and service – showing up, getting our hands dirty, and helping create a lasting positive impact for Georgia’s coast and the communities that depend on it.
