Water Conservation

Our staff has extensive experience with well development and design, irrigation pipe line design, pump selection and sizing, valve selection, GIS pipe line surveying, pivot placement, etc.  We bring the expertise of municipal water consultants to our agricultural clients.  Our goal is to improve infrastructure efficiency and documentation for the betterment of our clients, their operation and maintenance of equipment, and their budgets.  GWES is capable of assisting farmers and/or agricultural businesses with identifying inefficiencies, conservation and consumption issues, and assisting with projections of future crop production incorporating solutions to such issues.  For example, GWES is is capable of performing a water loss audit for clients which includes the following approach and plan:

GWES’ services include four phases of work:

(1) Planning – the overall objective of the planning phase is to set the methodology in place to accomplish the development of an interactive database with water model by identifying the seasonal crop, conducting site visits to obtain familiarity with the farm, existing infrastructure, and other information critical to the next phase of work

(2) Initial Engineering this phase of work includes the research, gathering, and evaluation of information pertinent to development of the interactive database and associated water model

(3) Final Engineering the overall objective of this phase is to determine the actual performance of the irrigation system from a water conversation standpoint by performing a Water Loss Audit

(4) Reporting in this phase, GWES will conclude all findings and submit a report to the client identifying inefficiencies and recommending solutions to improve operations, productivity, and profitability

Water Loss Audit Results

  • Identify water leaks and inefficiencies in the irrigation system
  • Compare soil moisture content versus metered flow
  • Identify areas in field/orchard that are receiving less flow than required
  • Review wet/reservoir pump efficiencies as designed and as calibrated
  • Determine probable areas of water loss in system
  • Develop recommendations for water loss improvements in system
  • Pump maintenance and/or replacement
  • System pipe repairs
  • Diversion of water flow
  • Reduce power consumption and carbon footprint
